Department Of Defense – Secure Cloud Migration

In 2020, an enterprise-level utility customer successfully migrated and upgraded from on-premise legacy SuccessFactors to the SuccessFactors HCM Learning Management System in the NS2 Cloud.

Aerospace and Defense – Financial System of Record

One of our customers in the Aerospace and Defense industry is enabling the world to travel faster than ever before with its resurrection of the supersonic airplane. To meet the requirements of a public stock offering, and to compete in the Aerospace and Defense industry, they needed a fully auditable financial system of record and an integrated enterprise procurement system – all on a secure cloud solution that adheres to their ITAR requirements. They chose SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management software, powered by the AWS GovCloud and NS2 Professional Services, to be their integrator. As a privately funded startup, budget was restricted before beginning their business systems journey. The NS2 Professional Services team provided a cost-effective plan to get the financial and procurement solution up and running in 5 months – just in time for the public offering. We worked hand in hand with the customer to ensure the architecture and configurable-ready system was available to meet the aggressive contract timelines. In addition to delivering the solution on-time and on-budget, our partnership with this customer has set the foundation for future phases that will include manufacturing and human resources solutions.

Department of Defense – Secure Cloud Migration

In 2020, an enterprise-level utility customer successfully migrated and upgraded from on-premise legacy SuccessFactors to the SuccessFactors HCM Learning Management System in the NS2 Cloud.

  • NS2 Professional Services helped develop a prototype that combines data from two financial systems into a common data model using SAP HANA’s in-memory computing to quickly digest gigantic volumes of data. This initiative, called Self-Service Business Intelligence, consolidated financial reporting across the enterprise.
  • Additional legacy systems were migrated into the modern ERP system to reduce the footprint of shadow financial systems. This reduces long-term cost of ownership.
  • The team quickly upsized the computing capability to handle additional demand on the system. 
  • Business processes were re-engineered to increase efficiency of ongoing operations. The key prerequisite was to move to SAP HANA in the NS2 Secure Cloud. The next step was to move the SAP S/4 HANA to implement the revised processes and realize the process gains.

Six months into the project, our customer sponsor asked SAP NS2 to re-plan the project to go live 10 months earlier than originally planned. This compressed timeline was crucial to the customer and their future SAP endeavors. Under the leadership of the SAP NS2 Professional Services organization, the program moved the applications from their on premise data center to the NS2 Secure Cloud, delivering the migration 10 months ahead of schedule. SAP NS2 PSO leveraged the power of “One” SAP NS2 team, consisting of team members from NS2 Professional Services, NS2 Cloud Onboarding, and NS2 Cloud SMS.

At the time, this effort represented the largest Suite on HANA instance in Federal space and included the migration of ECC, SCM, BW, SRM, BOBJ, DS and many other non-SAP systems. New capabilities were also added, including MDG, Celonis, SLT, and Side Car Data Warehouse (Universe of Transactions).

Without their migration to the Cloud, they were prohibited from bringing additional systems into their landscape and eventually retire legacy systems. As a result of our partnership with this client, they have also realized remarkable performance improvements under SAP HANA, observing 2-20x performance gains on business processes, reports and analytics.

With an existing 26 systems across 16 landscapes and approximately 60,000 users around the globe, they needed the agility offered by the SAP NS2 Secure Cloud to quickly stand up project-specific landscapes as they planned and executed on the following initiatives to drive operational excellence:

The upgrade required conversion of the existing Oracle-based database to the latest SAP HANA database platform. The NS2 Professional Services team brought the value of the SAP Activate methodology for the scheduling of necessary workshops, configuration, iterative testing and final approvals for QA/Acceptance, Training and Production environments.

For this customer, learning systems are mission critical, providing the basis for personnel access to high security and safety level sites in a timely manner. The customer integrations involved the conversion of custom reports for HANA readiness, use of standard integration points (i.e., APIs and SSO) and out of the box functionality, with no extensions necessary.

As a Nuclear generation customer, they required reliable integrations that could provide in-bound and out-bound learning data to support their on-going business processes and maintenance schedules. The go-live was accomplished within contract funding and timelines. As a result of their partnership with NS2 Professional Services, the customer was able to dramatically reduce their reliance on personnel to maintain their on-premise version of the LMS and hardware. Instead, they are now able to concentrate their efforts on the integrations that serve their organization, now fed from the NS2 Cloud LMS.
