Employee spotlight:

Vashist Nekkanti

Developer, SaaS DevOps

Career tip:

“Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Humility and open-mindedness go a very long way in unfamiliar environments. You’d be surprised how many people want to see you succeed if you just say please.”

- Vashist Nekkanti

Vashist Nekkanti is a Developer on the SaaS DevOps team at SAP NS2. After joining the company as an intern in 2025, he found a full-time role as a AI Developer that encouraged experimentation, creativity, and innovation. Today, as a SaaS DevOps Developer, he builds AI-powered automation tools with a simple goal in mind: using AI to give people back their agency.

Creativity in AI

“I was born in and have lived in Virginia for most of my life, attending Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) for my undergrad and the University of Michigan for grad school. Growing up, I was lucky to have parents who valued creativity, so I was always playing instruments, painting, or drawing. Today, I still love the arts and humanities. I play the guitar, sometimes in a band, oil paint on weekends, and volunteer in healthcare settings.

That creative foundation naturally turned into curiosity for how systems and ideas work, which is what first drew me toward machine learning and eventually large language models. I loved that AI could be applied to almost anything. You could write classical music one day and metal the next—and that flexibility made the field incredibly exciting to me.

In grad school, my curiosity was put under a different kind of pressure. Every exam, project, peer, and professor made me question my place in the program. Over time, though, I realized that my uncertainty wasn’t a sign I was in the wrong place, but part of developing deeper understanding and resilience. There will always be challenges you don’t feel fully prepared for, but you can still do your best and be proud of what you accomplish.

That experience shaped how I think about growth and problem-solving, and it’s what drew me to SAP NS2’s approach to building and scaling AI. The company’s focus on pushing AI boundaries immediately resonated, and I knew I wanted to be part of building what was next.

Giving people back their agency

Used responsibly, AI has the potential to remove the tedious parts of our lives and work so people can spend more time on the parts they enjoy.

Personally, I use AI as both a thought partner and a teacher. I recently used it to help me correctly mix paint colors for an oil painting. Professionally, it’s become just as valuable. From generating code templates with Claude Code and the AI & Enterprise Data Observability (AIDO) API to scoping projects and refining implementation plans, AI saves me anywhere from hours to days on work that might otherwise take weeks.

One project I’m especially proud of is a security automation system, which will support our customer environments. It’s an efficiency tool that should save teams a ton of time, effort, and the headache of certain tasks, which I’m really excited about.

Growing through innovation and mentorship

SAP NS2 has been a special place to work for two reasons. The first is the company’s appetite for AI innovation. The SaaS team is prioritizing five AI initiatives this year alone, and it’s exciting to see the impact those tools can have for both our teams and customers.

The second is my team. From my internship through my full-time role, I’ve always had people supporting my growth. The entire internship process at SAP NS2 is outstanding. Programs like the Lx Speaker Series gave me the opportunity to meet leadership from different teams across the company and helped me picture the kind of future I could build at SAP NS2

In my full-time role, my managers Ken Smith and Jerry Roberts have challenged me while making sure I have the guidance I need to succeed. They’ve helped me learn how to swim without ever throwing me into the deep end.

If there’s one thing I’d tell someone who’s considering SAP NS2, it’d be stop thinking and click apply.
